Topping out of office development in Macclesfield Town Centre
19th Apr 2007
Local councillors donned hard hats to carry out the topping-out ceremony for Magnus' £8m office development in Macclesfield Town Centre.
Construction of the Ropewalks is well underway and the topping-out marked the completion of the steel frame-work and roofing. It is the latest town centre scheme by Macclesfield based property developers Magnus Ltd and is on target for completion June 2007.
Councillor Janet Jackson said, "Magnus conducted a wide consultation before the development commenced, with the majority of local residents supporting the project. It's encouraging that parts of the original facade of the mill have ben retained, although this creates quite a challenge in blending the old and the new sympathetically".
The impressive landmark buidling on Bond Street will integrate the facade of the former historic mill with a new build element to create 33,350 sq ft of quality Grade A business accommodation.
Councilor Richard Watson agreed the development was a boost for the town "the high standard office development which I expect Ropewalks to become will provide much-needed quality office accommodation in the centre of Macclesfield. It will also be an asset to the adjoining Christchurch Conservation area and complement The Courtyard office scheme in improving this section of Bond Street".
Edward Lockyer, estates director of Magnus said "We are delighted with the progress of the scheme so far and look forward to seeing the completed building, which we have been working on for over two years. We have receivied a great many enquiries from both the local and regional occupiers and 19,000 sq ft is already under office. The Ropewalks meets the criteria of today's businesses including being in the town centre so employees are able to easily access Macclesfield's wealth of retail and leisure facilities.
The Ropewalks is designed by award winning architects Building Design Partnership (BDP) and blends an eclectic mix of old and new materials which will suit those companies looking for a distinctive base with style and elegance. The offices are being finished to the highest specification with a striking fully glazed atrium entrance together with private car parking. Suites are available from 3,000 sq ft to 14,500 sq ft.
Bordering the Chistchurch Conservation Area it is the only office development currently under construction in the town centre.
