East Cheshire Hospice patron, Ryan Giggs OBE, is delighted to front the launch of the charity's second Midnight Walk following the incredible success last year which raised in excess of £72,000. The date of this year's 10k roundtrip walk from Macclesfield Leisure Centre, through Prestbury and Tytherington, is Saturday, 12th September starting at midnight.
Ryan donned one of the distinctive yellow Midnight Walk t-shirts during a recent visit to the hospice whilst meeting patients and staff.
"The £72,000 raised last year went towards the cost of Phase 1 of the fantastic new development at the hospice which I was very proud to officially open a few weeks ago. I'd encourage everyone to get their boots on this year to raise even more money," said Ryan.
The event has also attracted a significant sponsorship package from property provider, Magnus.
"Magnus, the area's leading Office Provider, is delighted to support East Cheshire Hospice and make the night an even bigger success than last year. When we heard about the wonderful care provided by the hospice to so many local people, as keen walkers ourselves it seemed a great opportunity to become lead sponsor of this year's walk. We want to make sure the hospice raises as much money as possible from this as it becomes their flagship event," said Director, Vicki Cook.
Over 570 people took part in 2008 and the target this year is for 1000 people to set off together with the aim of raising in excess of £100,000.
"The backing of respected like Ryan Giggs and Magnus really helps the hospice raise its profile and hopefully some significant money again this year, after the success of last year which exceeded all our expectations. We are grateful to them and also to everyone who took part last year. We hope all our friends will walk with us again, bringing their colleagues, friends and families with them. Fancy dress is very much encouraged and there will be a prize for the best outfit. We want to make it a real party atmosphere," said Chief Executive, Jayne Bessant.
