Magnus u2013 Regenerating Macclesfield Town Centre

26th May 2006

Magnus, the Macclesfield based property investment and development company has submitted a planning application for Phase 2 of its £20m Christ Church Green regeneration scheme in the town centre.

Phase 2 'Ropewalks' iinvolves the redevelopment of Kershaw Mill along with approximately 70% of new build to create circa 35,000 sq.ft. of quality office space behind its distinctive façade. Completion is scheduled for late 2006.

The town may be attracting attention for its proposed retail redevelopment but Magnus is already seeing the completion of phase 1 of its 3 acre regeneration programme, which will transform redundant buildings into circa 113,000 sq.ft. of modern business accommodation.

Christ Church Green is made up of 3 adjoining town centre sites along Bond Street, adjacent to the retail development along Churchill Way.

Phase 1, 'The Courtyard', is the largest speculative office development to be undertaken in the town centre for many years and is a stylish combination of old and new which provides 28,000 sq.ft. of accommodation.

"Macclesfield has long been a popular and affluent Cheshire town but development of business space has until now largely taken place on its outskirts", said Edward Lockyer, Estates Director of Magnus. "The town is home to major international corporations who have spawned companies supplying highly skilled support services and these together with the indigenous professional sector are now looking for modern space designed for today’s businesses.

"The very positive interest we have received in The Courtyard clearly demonstrates this demand and under-pins our belief that occupiers understand the value of being based in the heart of the town centre – a key factor in attracting the right calibre of employees.

"Master planning of phase 3 is in the early stages of design and will provide approximately 50,000 sq.ft. of complementary space in 2007."
