Light-emitting diode or LED as it is more commonly known is fast becoming the market leader in lighting. While LED's have existed for decades in household appliances, computers, clocks etc. they have only recently been seen as an energy efficient replacement to both incandescent, halogen and compact fluorescent lights (CFL).

As part of our (Magnus) environmental strategy and ongoing maintenance programme, we are always looking at ways to reduce our carbon footprint, reduce spend and ultimately keep our service charge at manageable levels so our customers see the benefits. Using LED's rather than your 'typical' form of lighting can go some way to helping this.

Where halogen lamps are currently installed and where suitable, we are now investigating replacing these with a LED alternative. Research suggests a typical halogen bulb will last for approximately 2000 hours, replacing this will a similar LED will last up to 50,000 hours. Furthermore, LED's are more durable than your conventional bulb and will not be affected by shaking or vibration. LED's produce less heat so no more burning fingers. Lastly and probably most importantly you can save up to 80% of power usage by switching to LED's and because they do not contain mercury and pollutants this can only be better for the environment.
